What’s Really Happening Behind Closed Doors?

Sex after 50The “411” on sex after 50

When did you last see a TV commercial (except for erectile dysfunction) featuring 50 and 60-something couples in loving, sexual relationships?

The advertising media would have you believe that people over fifty are pretty much “over it” when it comes to sex. They portray people whose lives are focused on taking grandchildren to the park; clipping coupons for early bird dinners; watching TV re-runs of Seinfeld, and spending a lot of time going to five different doctors for those inevitable aches and pains.
Our survey said…
Although hundreds of surveys have been published on sexual behavior after age fifty, there are also studies to show that many people first want to know what is “normal” for others in their age group before they disclose their private bedroom secrets.

“People are often curious about others’ sex lives,” says Debby Herbenick, associate director of the Center for Sexual Health Promotion or CSHP. “They want to know how often men and women in different age groups have sex, the types of sex they engage in, and whether they are enjoying it or experiencing sexual difficulties.”

The upside of it all
Although studies show that sex may be less frequent after fifty, there is good news: the environment is more conducive to lovemaking; the kids are out of the nest; there is more freedom; and a far less chance of becoming pregnant.

Barbara Grufferman, AARP TV host and author of Best of Everything After 50 says she and her friends once worried about becoming sexual dropouts.

“We all hated thinking that things were slowing down,” Grufferman writes.  “Menopause can sometimes make sex uncomfortable…but just because a woman is post-menopausal, does she automatically lose interest? Forever?”

Some surprising statistics and helpful info
Here’s some of what Grufferman discovered:

1. The majority of women over 50 are sexually healthy and active. If there are problems connected with menopause such as vaginal dryness, over-the-counter lubricants  (such as Aloe Cadabra®) can help. The problem could be resolved overnight!

2. Men want women who want sex. It’s not so much about how a man’s partner looks or how old she is, but if she’s no longer interested in sex, that can be a turnoff for him.

3. Low sex drive is often related to health and physical problems or medications used by the man, not the woman, in a relationship. Several medications prescribed for other health issues can cause “low-T” (low testosterone) and create a domino effect. The man is not stimulated which leads his partner to believe he’s no longer attracted to her.

There were several findings of interest in another survey conducted by Christiane Northrup (AARP relationship expert), Pepper Schwartz, Ph.D. and sociologist James Witte, Ph.D.

1. About a third (31%) of couples (over 50) have sex several times a week; 28 percent of couples have sex a couple of times a month; and 8 percent of couples have sex once a month. 33 percent of respondents said they rarely or never have sex.

2. A huge majority (74 percent) of the happiest couples exchange passionate kisses at least once a week. “Kissing (passionately) bonds partners more deeply,” say the authors.

And the best advice from Barbara Grufferman? Stop worrying about what your friends are doing in their bedrooms and light up your own life.

Laugh and Lube Your Way Through Menopause

Posted on November 4, 2015

vaginal dryness menpause remediesLAUGH AND LUBE YOUR WAY THROUGH MENOPAUSE

On the surface, menopause is a serious subject but sometimes a humorous outlook can help a woman get through this annoying and even painful phase of womanhood.

Menopause affects each individual differently, so it may be misleading to generalize about its burdensome, sometimes embarrassing side effects. Some women have mild symptoms. Others feel like they are going through Hell, wondering how to tackle the agonizing hot flashes, mood swings, depression and night sweats, and one of the worst complaints—vaginal dryness. With symptoms like this, many women feel that they’ve lost that “spark” forever.

Laughter is still the best medicine
Writer and humorist Ronna Benjamin suggests “re-framing” menopause to offer a more positive perspective. In her article, What’s Good About Menopause, she replaces “have to” which implies force, with “get to” which makes it seem like more of a bonus.

“We GET to be filled with anxiety, because we can eat dark chocolate and red wine to calm ourselves down,” Benjamin writes. “We GET to have crushing fatigue, because we now have an excuse to say ‘no’ to things we really don’t want to do.”

Time to talk frankly
Women are more open today about discussing the subject of vaginal dryness. It’s one of the most frequent menopausal symptoms and complaints and often, very painful. After menopause, more than half of women suffer from some degree of vaginal atrophy and dryness, often accompanied by tenderness, itching, burning during urination, urinary incontinence and painful intercourse. This condition can also trigger yeast and bacterial infections, cracks in the vaginal walls, and vaginitis or inflammation of the vagina. All of these can lead to painful intercourse. This extreme discomfort often means sex goes on the back burner, and that can lead to emotional and intimacy problems. (http://bottomlinehealth.com/natural-topical-remedies-for-vaginal-dryness/)

First line of defense: go topical
If vaginal dryness is the primary issue, the good news is that women will have instant relief by using a natural way to moisten the vagina. It’s safe and a lot more fun.

Laurie Steelsmith, ND, LAc, co-author of Great Sex, Naturally, recommends Aloe Cadabra®, for mild to moderate dryness. It’s a lubricant and moisturizer in one product; soothes the affected area; expedites healing of vaginal tissue; and it’s made with 95 percent organic aloe and five percent pure food-grade ingredients. You can learn more about its many benefits at www.aloecadabra.com.

Vaginal Dryness Remedies menopause

Steelsmith also suggests Vitamin E suppositories or Black Cohosh/wild yam suppositories. However, she warns to use these with physician supervision since the ingredients may be contra-indicated for women with a history of breast or uterine cancer, seizures, liver disorders, blood clots or stroke. Dr. Steelsmith also points out that some over-the-counter lubricants are petroleum or oil-based which can cause latex condoms or diaphragms to weaken and fail. Some contain hormones or promote yeast infections or they contain a topical anesthetic, which defeats the purpose of pleasurable sex.

And then, there is reality
An estimated 6,000 US women reach menopause every day—over two million per year. All women will get there eventually—some earlier than others. Laughter can help women get through menopause but serious symptoms such as vaginal dryness may persist and nothing is guaranteed to put sizzle in the bedroom.

Take a tip from Albert Einstein who offered his definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different outcome. If you keep using the same thing for vaginal dryness and it’s not working, try Aloe Cadabra. A good laugh and a safe, effective lube might just bring back that spark!

Just Put Some Aloe On It

Posted on October 26, 2015

Aloe Vera Healing Agent Best SourceTUSSIN FOR EVERYTHING

The irreverent comedian, Chris Rock, does a bit about his childhood illnesses and his father’s advice for everything. “Put some ‘Tussin on it.” The reference to the cold medicine, Robitussin™ was a panacea for all ailments in Rock’s family.

“Got a broken bone? Put some Tussin on it. Got herpes, HIV, gunshot wound? Put some Tussin on it.” Today, the variation on Rock’s theme is “Put some aloe on it.”

ALOE FOR EVERYTHING

It won’t re-set a broken bone or cure herpes but Aloe Vera does have unique medicinal value not found in any other living plant. Undisputed by Eastern medicine, global scientific and organic communities, and even some savvy Western medicine practitioners, aloe is the hot (actually cooling, soothing) new item on the market.

But it’s not “new” at all. In fact, it’s an ancient remedy that can be traced back to Pliny the Elder (23-79 A.D.), the Mayans, Cleopatra, Queen Nefertiti, the Phoenicians, Hebrew tribes, and Stone-Age South Africans. The word “Aloe” (pronounced “AH-low or “AH-low-AY”) is plentiful in Hawaii where it is grown in every back yard on the islands. The name comes from the Arabic word Alloeh–“bitter and shiny substance” which describes the white liquid that oozes from the plant.

Queen

THE MIRACLE PLANT

Aloe is known by many names including the Miracle Plant, The Plant of Immortality, The Burn Plant, and Pain’s Natural Enemy. It has more than 300 nutrients including amino acids–the basic building blocks of proteins in production of muscle tissue; enzymes such as Catalese, Alkaline, and Celluase which enhances absorption; minerals such as calcium, barium, magnesium, potassium and Zinc; anti-inflammatory properties, non-toxic analgesics, and Vitamins A,C,E,B, B12 and Folic Acid.

A study at the University of Texas, Galveston, indicates that aloe with its 75-plus chemical compounds, helps heal wounds, offers relief from thermal injuries and a wide variety of soft-tissue injuries. It prevents progressive skin damage from burn injuries, frostbite, and electrical burns.

ALL ALOES ARE NOT CREATED EQUAL

Read the label for the Aloe product you’re buying. Some aloe items contain more water and other ingredients than pure aloe from the liquid inside of the plant. According to Dr. Helen Pensanti, who specializes in natural hormones for women, “The contents should be listed in percentage of volume. In most lotions and ointments, Aloe is listed last or very near the end of ingredients. This tells you that the product has very little Aloe in it.”

Always buy from a reputable supplier of products. Aloe Cadabra® specifically made for vaginal dryness, is both a lubricant and a moisturizer. It contains 95 percent of the highest quality, organic aloe called Barbadensis. The natural composition of Aloe Cadabra® offers a vaginal lubricant comprised of all-natural products to moisturize, protect, renew and replenish this precious part of a woman’s body.

“Such a generous portion of aloe in Aloe Cadabra® can only mean good things,” says acupuncturist and herbalist Antonia Balfour who practices Chinese medicine in the Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles. “I use aloe in many of my skin products and the results are phenomenal. I can understand why it makes an excellent, healthy and safe vaginal lubricant.”

Vaginal dryness is a common byproduct of peri menopause and menopause. It is common and yet can also be acute. Vaginal dryness is also associated with life’s events such as childbirth, hormone treatments, medications, and stress! Harsh soaps and other chemicals can take away from natural moisture. Stress certainly plays a large part in keeping our system naturally lubricated. The delicate vaginal tissues become less plyable, and cracks may develop that can invite in infection and discomfort. An unhealthy lifestyle, pushing oneself to the max will can have manifestations in vaginal dryness. These can include lack of sleep, and rest, too much caffeine, lack of exercise and even negative thoughts and emotions. Aloe Cadabra: The Renaissance Lubricant

Posted on July 26, 2015

Scuba divers love Aloe Cadabra to get their wet suits on

Image courtesy of stockimages / FreeDigitalPhotos.net

While Aloe Cadabra is a fantastic lubricant and moisturizer, according to our customers, they’re not limiting themselves.  Without any prompting from us, many of you have been generous enough to share other uses you’ve discovered for Aloe Cadabra.

Probably the least surprising due to the aloe base of our product was from one young women who used it to alleviate her sunburn.  A couple who recently had a baby told us they used it on diaper rash. Yet another person described how they used it on a really bad “road burn,” they’d gotten from biking.  Within a week, the skin was healed.

But Aloe Cadabra isn’t simply being limited to people. One user told us about her dog being bitten in the face by an insect. After giving her pet some Benadryl, she used Aloe Cadabra directly on the bite to soothe away the sting. She’d read online that aloe helped alleviate itching, so she gave it a shot. According to her, it worked swimmingly.

We’ve heard from many that Aloe Cadabra has become their go to hand lotion.  It makes sense.  While Aloe Cadabra may be called a personal lubricant and its great for that purpose, the ingredients we use make it great for a variety of things.  Aloe Vera is widely considered anti microbial and anti fungal.  So, it can be soothing on sensitive skin.

Aloe Vera has also been used in medical centers on burns for a long time. And since we’re made with 95% aloe vera, it’s fantastic for that purpose as well.  Aloe Vera has also widely been considered to have nourishing, healing attributes for the lips since the time of Cleopatra, and there are folks who’ve shared that they use it in just this way!

As interesting as all these stories were, the most surprising one came from a gentleman who told us he used it to get his wetsuit on and off. Like any curious company, we did a marketing study and found that scuba divers were some of the biggest purchasers of Aloe Cadabra! Why? Well, similar to a condom, a wet suit is made from rubber and can be difficult to get on and remove without the help of a lubricant.

So, no matter what you’re doing or what you’re trying to lubricate or moisturize, keep Aloe Cadabra in mind.  When you start with 95% organic aloe vera, despite what the bottle may say or the connotation may be, it might just be the solution you’re looking for.  Share with us how you’re using Aloe Cadabra! We’re on Twitter and Facebook, and enjoy hearing from our fans!

NOTE: please check with your doctor is you have a serious medical condition and are considering using Aloe Cadabra in a way other than its “intended purpose.”
