However, big food and agro companies often argue that organic agriculture is too expensive to feed 7 billion people. A new study shows that regional economic health in 225 U.S counties improves when farms transition to organic agriculture. “Organic hotspots” boost median household incomes by an average of $2,000 per year and reduce poverty levels by an average of 1.3 percentage points, according to the research. Organic agriculture, along with the accompanying business activities, was found to have a greater beneficial economic effect than conventional, chemically-intensive agriculture and had an even more positive impact than some major anti-poverty programs.    READ MORE

Now, the state of Missouri is planning to pave a stretch of the famous interstate highway, Route 66, with energy-generating photovoltaic pavers—the first such panels on a public right of way in the U.S. The project is led by Solar Roadways. Nikola Motor Company, the American manufacturer that wants to build electric has announced it has raised $2.3 billion in the first month since they opened pre-sales. The company will unveil its first electric truck prototype in December, but has over 7,000 reservations for the production model. According to the company, an electric truck would save around $400,000 in fuel in one million miles along with savings on maintenance bills of over $100,000 for the same distance. New research shows that using wood mulch has a notable effect in reducing greenhouse gas  emissions. According to a new study studies vineyards and orchards utilizing wood mulch have cut their nitrous oxide emissions by over 25 percent. These same mulched areas also report a drop in soil nitrates of up to 74 percent. This is especially good news because soil nitrates can produce a greenhouse gas that is 300 times more powerful than carbon dioxide.
