This simple trick can help you avoid weight gain on your next vacation

It’s summertime, and the livin’ is easy. Perhaps a bit too easy if you’re going on a relaxing vacation with nothing better to do but lounge all day. Yes, a relaxing getaway can be a great way to spend your summer vacation, but if you plan to take it easy and indulge in delicious food, don’t be surprised if you come home with a few extra pounds. Want to avoid that? No problem.

Researchers from the University of Georgia have discovered a simple trick that can help stop you from gaining weight while away on a trip. In a study, the researchers found that people who weigh themselves daily during times when they may be more likely to indulge — the holidays and vacations, for example — will more successfully maintain their weight or even lose some compared to people who don’t dare step on the scales.

We get it if you don’t want to step on the scale every day while you’re on vacation. Who would? But perhaps it’s something to keep in mind if you’re keen on avoiding weight gain during vacation. READ MORE

How to save money when you’re trying to lose weights

If you’ve ever tried to lose weight, you’ve probably come to realize that it can be a pricey endeavor for your wallet. From gym memberships to nutrition plans and expensive superfoods, the path to weight loss can cost a fortune. But it doesn’t have to be this way. With some careful planning and research, you can actually spend a lot less as you make your way on the path to weight loss and fitness. Here’s how.

The first thing you have to do is eat in, and cook enough for leftovers. Avoid expensive restaurants and try meal prepping, which is where you cook one element and incorporate it into a number of different meals throughout the week.

Secondly, buy grains, nuts, and legumes in bulk. Not only are these cheap, but they are packed with essential amino acids, protein, and other essential nutrients.

Third, buy fattier meats (if you still eat meat). Why? They’re cheaper, tastier, and loaded with the nutrients you need.

The next thing you need to do is avoid buying everything organic. Yes, buy some organic is good, but frozen fruits and veggies tend to be cheaper and pesticide-free too.

Number five: avoid wasting food. Don’t waste precious bucks on produce that winds up in the compost bin.

Sixth, don’t fall for buzzword ingredients. Whatever the trendy diet or food of the moment is, you can bet there’s a bunch of new prepackaged snacks and foods advertising them, and that hype comes at a cost.

Another good tip is to consider the ketogenic diet. The foods in this diet keep you fuller longer, which means you have to buy less food.

Tip #8: join the YMCA. Unlike most other gyms, the Y is a nonprofit meant to better the community and offers subsidized memberships for people with lower incomes.

Our penultimate tip is to simply move around more. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Bike to work. These are all examples of cost-free forms of exercise.

Lastly, the more you adhere to the first nine tips, the more you can look forward to lower medical expenses. READ MORE

Losing Weight Doesn’t Have to Cost Big

Posted on May 13, 2019

6 tips for losing weight on a budget

If you’re trying to lose weight, there’s no need to spend lavishly on the trendy superfoods you often see online. Sure, buying a coconut matcha latte is a nice healthy treat, but do you need it? No, not really. Should you be looking to lose weight without spending too much dough, the following six tips will help you do just that. First, reduce food waste. The scraps of food you have after cooking a meal, such as half an avocado or a boiled egg, can be repurposed into different meals if you get creative. Next tip: skip organic (sometimes). Eating more fruits and vegetables—whether they’re organic or not—will help you eat more fiber and get more vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. If organic food is just too expensive, it’s OK to buy non-organic. Third, buy frozen and canned produce. Sure, it may sound basic, but there are some really inventive frozen products on the cheap these days, from cauliflower rice to carrot spirals, that are low-calorie. Number four: try meal delivery services like Blue Apron. They might be expensive, but they provide small amounts of high-quality ingredients so that you don’t need to go the store yourself—which can save time and money in terms of reducing food waste. The fifth tip is to add beans to your meals. While beans aren’t the sexiest of foods, they are some of the cheapest finds in the grocery store that are also healthy. And last but not least, just slow down when you eat. When you scarf your food, you may naturally overeat. Slow down and you’ll be just as satisfied on less. READ MORE

Experts agree – these are the best foods to kick start your metabolism

Posted on May 8, 2019

Add these metabolism-boosting foods to your diet to lose weight more easily

While good fitness can help cue your body to burn fats and lose weights, eating the right foods can get your body to do the same. Take seaweed, for example. This salad of the sea is rich in iodine, which is the master nutrient of our thyroid gland, which plays a central role in our metabolism. Pineapple salsa is another food that gets your body digesting food more efficiently. That’s because it contains enzymes and compounds that rev up the metabolism and tells your body to work harder. Want more foods to add to your diet that will keep your metabolism working strongly? Look no further than right here. READ MORE

Short high intensity workouts are the key to quick weight loss

Posted on March 4, 2019

HIIT workouts are best for weight loss To speed up weight loss, try these high-intensity workouts

Exercising doesn’t have to be a long, painful ordeal. In fact, if you want to lose weight quickly, research says the best you can do is take part in short high-intensity workouts. That’s because intense exercise depletes the oxygen available to the muscles, forcing them to burn fat for energy instead. On top of that, intense exercise makes the body burn calories for hours after the workout ends in order to make up for the resulting oxygen debt. If you’re not sure which exercises fall under the category of high-intensity, no worries: have a look here to see the common ways people get their dosage of high-intensity workouts. READ MORE
