Many studies show that people who consciously count their blessings tend to be happier and less depressed. Most of these studies were done with college students or other well-functioning people. A new study focused on a less successful and happy group.
Participants were instructed to write one letter of gratitude to another person each week for three weeks. Three months later the people writing the gratitude letters still reported significantly better mental health.
