By fusing hot water and eggshells, you can make an eggshell tea (yum!) that can serve as an all-natural and inexpensive fertilizer for your houseplants or in the garden. So, you might ask, how exactly do you make eggshell tea fertilizer? It’s simple. In a large pot, boil a gallon of water and add 10 to 20 clean eggshells to it. Once it’s boiling, turn off the heat and allow the brew to sit overnight. The next morning, strain the tea and pour it on the plant’s soil. When we’re not eating a balanced, healthy diet, we often blame it on our lack of time. But maybe we’re looking at it all wrong? Perhaps the struggle to cook meals from scratch and eat them with others is not because we lack time but because we’re scheduling it poorly. Not long ago, set mealtimes were a given. People had breakfast in the mornings, workplaces and schools had defined lunch breaks, and almost everyone sat down at the table for dinner. If these rituals didn’t happen, it was an aberration from the norm. Now a ‘normal’ meal schedule hardly exists. Modern life has become so busy, so packed with activities that happen at all hours of the day, that formal mealtimes have lost their places of importance while on-the-go eating becomes standard. Because we feel so busy, we’ve convinced ourselves that there is no time to cook, which makes no sense considering Americans are working less than they used to. It’s time to reinstate mealtimes and the healthy diet that come with it. The time is there; we’re just using it in the wrong ways. A good first step is to replace social media scrolling time (or TV-watching) with food prep. We all know how quickly fifteen minutes can disappear when we’re looking at Instagram feeds. How to be happy, even when life changes suddenly

When a professional athlete reaches the age where they no longer can compete at the highest level, retirement is inevitable. Sure, retiring will suddenly shake up their life a bit, but at least they can accept the change that will come with retiring because they have been able to compete for as long as possible. That’s not always the case for an athlete whose career is cut short by injuries. A career-killing injury can crush the dreams of athletes otherwise in their prime with a bright future ahead of them, making retirement a difficult pill to swallow. The case of the professional athlete can be applied to all of us in life. Life can take twists and turns that are unexpected and unpredictable. A sudden change might occur that throws us off our “life trajectory,” and can make us unhappy because it’s not what we expected. To be happy in life, we have to drop our expectations of our lives turning out a certain way. When our happiness is associated with a particular outcome, we’ve created the formula for suffering. This formula even applies to circumstances where we get exactly what we want, such as the dream job, spouse, child, car, house or (input your desire here). Because once we have what we want, our minds quickly shift to either wants or fears: We want more of what we have or fear losing it. The reality is sudden change is bound to occur for many of us, but if happiness is what we all really want, then we have to focus our energy toward adapting to new circumstances and information. Just Let Go

Feeling stressed? These 3 practices will help you let go

Too much stress can have terrible consequences on both your mental and physical health, but what we don’t often realize is that many of the things we stress about don’t deserve all that anguish. Instead of letting those things drive you crazy, sometimes it’s better to just let go of the stress. Here are three practices from Leo Babauta (founder of Zen Habits) for letting go when you’re experiencing a moment of stress. The first practice is to drop into your body and notice how the stress feels, physically. Be present with the feeling — it’s not a problem to have stress in your body, it’s just a physical feeling. You can observe the physical sensation, be with it, and slowly let it go. This can be your whole practice, and it only has to take a few moments. The second practice is to notice your narrative about the situation that is causing stress. You probably have an ideal that is guiding that narrative, something like “they shouldn’t be acting like that.” Notice that the ideal and the narrative are causing the effect of stress and anxiety. Then realize that this narrative is completely fabricated by your mind. You created this ideal and the narrative. That’s nothing to beat yourself up about, but something worth recognizing. The good thing is that if you created it, you can let it go as well. The third practice is to let go and just be. Ask yourself what it would be like to not have the ideal and narrative. See if you can feel what it would be like, just for a moment. In that moment, you are free. You can relax, open your mind beyond your self-concern, and just be. Realize that your problem is not the end of the world, and notice how amazing it is just to be alive right now. You don’t have to be grateful and joyous in every moment, but this freedom of dropping these narratives and simply being at peace … it’s always available. READ MORE
